Description
Allegrini from fruit brought in from outside their own vineyards. They have a similar stamp of quality that sets them apart from most of the Veronese wines produced at this level.
Vineyards
The vineyards are situated in the eastern, morenic hills of Lake Garda with an elevation of 200-250 metres above sea level. The vines are planted with a south/south-west exposure on crumbly, well drained soils. The vines are trained by the 'cortina pendente' system, with a plant density of 4,000 vines per hectare. The average age of the vines is 18 years.
Vintage Information
The vintage was characterised by fairly high temperatures and healthy grapes that were perfectly intact at harvest time. The ripening phase required two emergency irrigations and also benefitted from timely rainfall on the 20th of August, which helped maintain the physiological balance of the vines, resulting in the full aromatic and phenolic ripening of the grapes. The absence of rain, except on two days, during the harvest period meant that the work was carried out easily and without impediment. 2015 wines are looking be complex, rich in perfumes, characterised by slightly above average alcohol content and good balance.
Vinification
The grapes were whole bunch pressed and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks at 14-15°C for 8-10 days. Partial malolactic fermentation was allowed to take place in September. The wine remained in tank until bottling.
Tasting Notes
Bright straw yellow in the glass with light and delicate aromas showing lovely Pinot Grigio character. Elegant floral notes are complemented by richer hints of Golden Delicious apples. This wine with its dry, racy palate and good depth and definition is a sure-fire winner.
